A regular business meeting of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society was held at Sea Breeze Recreation Center on September 4, 2014. Club President, Bill Collins, called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Officers Reports:

The minutes for August were emailed to each person on the Club Roster.  They were also posted on the new website.

It was moved and seconded to approve the August minutes.

Treasurer,  Richard Goodspeed.

   For August
Beginning Bank Balance      $ 1,846.04
Deposit                                   +    177.00
Ending Bank Balance           $ 2,023.04
Cash on hand                                    +      32.25
Total Balance                         $ 2,055.29

The question was asked if we have a regular budget.  Is $2,055.29 a reasonable balance for the club to carry?  Our only budget consists of about $300, or so, to meet our yearly expenses.

Cory complained that the flat lap “wobbles” and is difficult to use.  It was decided that a few people should look at the function and see if it can be fixed.

It was moved and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report.

Events Co-coordinator, Christine Courtwright

Annual Gem Club Show

Chris is actively taking in money for tables at our Annual Club Show.

Colonial Day at Brownwood

January 20, 2015 is the date for Pioneer Day at Brownwood. The tables will cost $35 in 2015.  In past years it was free.  Any members of our club can sell at this event but they will have to share in the $35 fee.

Two tents should accommodate demo people, Brian Dickson and Dick Goodspeed, and four or five sellers.

Motion:  The club pays for two tents at Colonial Days at Brownwood January 20, 2015.

The motion was seconded and passed.

Chris is also looking for people to demo at our club show January 31, 2015.

Bill announced that we now have “club” safety glasses for use with all machines.  There are also “germ wipes” that can be used to wipe the glasses off, if anyone is concerned.

The Jacksonville Gem Mineral and Fossil Show will be at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium, 3800 St. John’s Bluff Rd., Sept. 19-21.  There are a number of our club members interested in going.  Bill will put together a car-pooling opportunity.

The Florida Fossil Hunters will have their annual Fossil fair Oct. 18 and 19 at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.

There is a gentleman in Gainsville who is available to speak on Larimar.  We all agreed we would love for him to come and speak.

Mary Ellen Lanigan reported that the SIG she heads up is going to begin a “wire buying” consortium.  She will have order sheets every week if you want to order wire.

Bill proposed that when we sign-up for use of a machine, it is the responsibility of the next person signed up to inform the person using the machine that they have 5 minutes left.

It was also suggested that we bring Gene McDevitt back to talk about Boulder Opals.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
