For anyone interested in selling their handmade jewelry, stones, rocks, etc. there is a vendor’s sale at temple Shalom.  The fee is $40 and anyone interested can talk to Judy Mitchell.

He had info on purchasing slabbing rough and faceting rough online.

Sept 16-18, The Jacksonville Gem & Mineral Society is putting on their annual show.

The S.E. Federation annual meeting is in Greenville, SC this coming weekend.

Tom and Judy attended The Franklin Faceter’s Frolic Four last month.  They were introduced to Gem CAD.  They also attended The Franklin Gem and Mineral Show, which had many vendors and exhibitors.  They went to 4 of the 5 gem shows in Franklin.

After Franklin they went to William Holland.  Tom took more instruction in faceting and Judy in wire wrap.  The second week they both took Silver Smithing I.

Tom and Judy brought in items they made at William Holland and items they purchased at the Franklin venues and at William Holland for all to see.

Old Business: We discussed forming a committee to write a proposal for equipment that the club would like The Villages Rec. Dept. to pay for.  Tom and Dick volunteered for the committee.

Also discussed the idea of having a quarterly field trip.  Going to The Gillespie Museum and having a docent show us around is a popular idea.  Tom will contact the woman in charge to see when we can go.

The Natural History Museum in Gainesville, which is open on weekends, is another possibility.

Barbara Peterson made a motion to have a quarterly event that the entire club could attend.

The motion carried unanimously.

Tom Mitchell will be the host for this quarter’s event possibly The Gillespie Museum.

New Business:

Gene McDevitt, who owns an opal mine in Australia, happens to live in the Tampa area.  He is willing to come to The Villages and give a presentation to our club.  We need to check to see what the rules are for having Gene come and speak, demo, and sell rough or cut stones here at Sea Breeze.  Rhonda will try to get the definitive “written” rules.

Watch for emails concerning upcoming events.

The meeting was adjourned for our “Chinese auction” and “show and tell.”
