MINUTES

Meeting Date: Mar 2011

A regular business meeting of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society was held at Sea Breeze Recreation Center on March 3, 2011.  The meeting convened at 7:00 pm. President Joe Comer presiding.

Minutes of the February meeting were read, amended and accepted.

Officers Reports:

Vice President, Tom Mitchell reported on FDJ on Time located in Winter Park, FL.  This is the closest, in proximity to us, supplier to the jewelry and lapidary trade.  They have a large showroom where you can see every tool and piece of equipment they sell.

He also made available his copy of The US Faceter’s Guild Newsletter for anyone interested to look at.

The S.E. Federation of Gem & Mineral Societies – LODESTAR.  This newsletter has a list of all the shows coming up in the S.E. Federation.

Tom also brought in some of his books on identifying rocks, gems & minerals.

Tom gave a talk on Three Aspects of Durability and provided handouts for everyone.

Announcements:

Ed announced there are club badges available, made to order for $7.00.

We have a workroom reserved at Sea Breeze every Thursday night from 6-9 pm.  We will collect a contribution from each person who uses equipment on workshop Thursdays.  The contribution is $1 for equipment use, except the facet machine, which is a $5 contribution.

Bill shared a bit about attending the Tucson Show.  He also brought in a lot of catalogs and printed material from the show that he made available for the taking.

 

Visitors:

Beverly and Ray, Villagers for 16 years.  Beverly is a silversmith.

Nancy and Dan just moved here from New York.

Christine, a Villager for 6 years, wants to learn how to use the equipment.  Has spent some time mining in N. Carolina.

Adjournment:

Meeting was adjourned and we had our “Chinese auction” and “show and tell” time.
