A regular business meeting of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society was held at Sea Breeze Recreation Center on June 5, 2014. Club President, Bill Collins, called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.


Officers Reports:

Secretary, Rhonda West

The minutes for May were emailed to each person on the Club Roster.  They were also posted on the new website.

It was moved and seconded to approve the May minutes.

Treasurer, Richard Goodspeed reported:

Events Co-coordinator, Christine Courtwright reported:

Beginning August 1st there will be sign-up, sheets on our website, for tables at the Annual Gem Club Show in January 2015.  In October it will open up to other vendors.  All sign-ups, etc. need to be completed by Jan. 1st, 2015.

There was a discussion about whether or not to have demos during the show.  The demo machines are noisy!


Safety Officer, Ed Mrak

A copy of the Safety Rules that have been compiled by Ed Mrak and his committee will be posted on our website.

We were informed that there are 3 kinds of insurance available to our club and they are ALL liability only policies.

The Jacksonville Gem Mineral and Fossil Show will be at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium, 3800 St. John’s Bluff Rd., Sept. 21-23

July 24-26 Is the Facetor’s Frolic in Franklin, NC.

Field Trips

Ruck’s Pit on May 17th was cancelled.  It will be rescheduled for sometime in the fall.

Peace River trip will be scheduled when the water level goes down.

Graves Mountain, GA “Rock, Swap and Dig” is October 3-5, 8 am to 6 pm each day.  You can dig for the local stuff and there are dealers who bring in stuff from everywhere at very reasonable prices.


Tom Mitchell – Assistant Florida State Director for the S.E. Federation

The S.E. Federation, which we are a part of, is one of 8 in the country.

The American Federation holds a raffle every year.  The proceeds go into an endowment.  The endowment is never touched – just the interest on the endowment is accessed.

One of the Federation’s funded endeavors is lending books, DVDs, and videos.  It also funds converting taped programs to DVD.

The raffle tickets are sold and you could win one of the items donated to the endowment event.  Tickets are $5.00 each.
