The Villages Gem and Mineral Club


Meeting Date: Jun 2013

A regular business meeting of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society was held at Sea Breeze Recreation Center on June 6th, 2013. Club President, Tom Mitchell, opened the meeting at 6:30 pm.

He talked about a recent demo he did for his Faceter’s Guild in Deland on Gem Identification.  The stone was an imitation emerald.  He had handouts pertaining to gem ID for anybody interested.

He referenced various “helps” located on the front table.  Periodicals, newsletters, catalogs, source sheets, etc. are all available for reference – but not to take home.

Officers Reports:

Secretary, Rhonda West read the minutes from the May 2013 meeting.

The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer, Richard Goodspeed reported:

The Treasurer’s report was approved.

President, Tom Mitchell told us about meeting/show they went to in Mobile, AL.  They also took Mitchell Jewelry to the Melbourne Antique Show.  They saw a lot of beautiful antique jewelry for sale.  Many vendors wanted Tom to identify their wares and tell them what they were worth.

Tom announced that he and Judy would not be here for the August business meetings as they will be at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts.

It was announced that our July business meeting is cancelled as it would fall on July 4th and the Rec. center will be closed


The meeting was adjourned and we had a demonstration of the proper procedures in using our trim saw and DOP station
We also had our Chinese auction and show & tell.
