The Villages Gem and Mineral Club

Meeting Date: Apr 2013

A regular business meeting of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society was held at Sea Breeze Recreation Center on April 4th, 2013. Club President, Tom Mitchell, opened the meeting at 6:30 pm.  He welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked first timers to stand and introduce themselves.  He then asked everyone to be sure to sign-in and to make sure his or her email addresses are correct on the roster.

Officers Reports:

President, Tom Mitchell, talked about the upcoming field trip to The Peace River on April 20th.  There is another field trip April 26-28 to Graves Mountain in Georgia.

He also pointed out resource items sitting on the front table for perusal.

He then talked about our equipment situation.  We need another CAB machine.  We have options. The first option is a Cab King with 6 wheels & a submersible pump for $1,000 + $50. Shipping.  The second option is for a stainless steel unit with 6 wheels from Kingsley North.  This option would also need a drip system added for additional funds.  Without the drip system the cost is $1,165. + a shipping charge.

The motion was made to buy the Cab King.  The motion was seconded.

Discussion:  We should make sure that what we buy would be easy for our members to use.

There were no objections to purchase the Cab King.

There was a motion to use one of the Cab machines for training new members in cabbing.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Tom received a telephone call from the grandson of a deceased lapidary.  Tom has maneuvered our club into the position of being able to go to this man’s house and “shop.”

New Business:

Technically, the discussion and motions concerning the new cab machine were new business.
